Missions

Mission Trip - 2010

In a word—SUCCESSFUL!  I believe all were pleasantly surprised by the work we were able to accomplish, the camaraderie we shared, the loving spirit displayed, and the appreciation for our own blessings.

Beyond that, I believe it is more blessed to give than receive (Acts 20:35).  Everyone had a satisfaction and fulfillment in the work we were able to accomplish.

God has blessed us with so very much and it is good to recognize many of those blessings are meant to be shared...time, talents, and tithes!  Shared for His glory that others may benefit and be drawn closer to our Lord.  Our Mission Team did that.  And Church, without your support, prayers, and encouragement it would not have happened.  Thank-you for making these experiences a reality for all who wanted to be involved!

I believe our Father is pleased and I believe the effects will be far reaching—Praise be to God!

WMU Project

We are collecting food goods for ICOR (Intra-Church Outreach Ministry) as our monthly outreach project.  Please pick-up some of these extra items the next time you go shopping and bring them to church as we continue ministering within our community.  Those items needed are:  rice, dry beans, peanut butter, jelly, spaghetti noodles & sauce, macaroni & cheese, and sugar.  Thank you for making a positive difference right in our own community...the example you demonstrate is Christ!

World Hunger Day

Our designated date to receive all collected change and other monies donated to help fight against World Hunger is October 11, 2009.

In our country 35.5 million people including 12.6 million children live in households that experience hunger or the risk of hunger.

As Southern Baptists we have a means to minister to our fellow citizens as well as reach beyond our borders to the over 1.5 billion across the world who are hungry.

Every day almost 16,000 children die from hunger-related causes—that is one child every five seconds.

Together our contributions can change the world—one person at a time.  Remember, Jesus took time to feed the hungry in order to minster to them spiritually (Matthew chapters 14 and 15).

Book-bags Packed and Sent!

Thank-you church for your support and giving so that others can be blessed, especially those who have never met you!

We have 14 book-bags packed full of school supplies plus some extra things for the children your mission team had opportunity to get to know in Philadelphia.

When talking with Pastor Yvonne from our host church there, she said over and over again what a tremendous blessing this is for their church and their children.  She had been praying for a way to help the children in her community for school and your actions are the answers to her prayers!  Isn’t it amazing how God works?

Pastor Yvonne and church are in the midst of a building project and she asked if we’d pray for them...specifically some last minute changes with the zoning aspect.  The enemy is coming against them, but we know and claim victory for them through Christ.  She also asked prayer for her deteriorating knee joints, many of us understand how that can be.  So, continue praying for our Christian friends at Gather the People House of Prayer!

They Have Arrived

Pastor Yvonne called this past Sunday  (August 30) to say the boxes arrived and they are thrilled we sent so much to them and their children.  They start school a little later than we do here which made the delivery right on time.

She continued to thank you for your kindness and the blessings you share with them and their children.  The bookbags will be taken to church and handed out to the children we got to meet during our mission trip this past July.

Thank-you for your willingness to help and be a blessing to another!

Mission Team Report

Gather the People House of Prayer

Several of our group will eagerly share their experiences on Sunday morning (August 2) but I wanted to share a couple things myself.  First of all, I am so thankful to our church family for allowing us to go and for your support in making this happen—I believe you will see much good come out of this experience.

I also want to thank Stacy, Danita, and Valeria for their willingness to do even more than I had expected with our group of 25.  Their driving prowess, wonderful spirit of flexibility (fluidity), and godly spirit shined throughout the week.  For our Youth and College & Career that went—ya’ll did good!  I realize not everything went as you desired or anticipated, but you hung in there and for that I’m proud of you!

I saw God working in our lives as well as the lives within the neighborhood of 15th & Clearfield Sts.  For most we have a renewed appreciation for God’s goodness as well as His love for others.  For some I’ve seen a willingness to be inclusive of those outside our normal associates and even seen others jump at the chance to serve others within as well as outside our group—again, thank-you for letting Christ shine through you!

For all, I hope we will continue to pray for Gather the People House of Prayer, and the ministry in winning the hearts and lives of many who at one time had no hope.  I pray our experiences will help to create in us more Christ-likeness in all we do!

Again, thank-you all for your part in this growing ministry in reaching people for Christ both near and far.  May God continue to bless us as we continue to serve Him!

Mission Team - Sightseeing

Thank-You!

Thank-you Church for your continued support of our ongoing ministries and for your encouraging and kind acts!  Our recent BBQ Plate sale netted nearly $3,300 to go toward eliminating our building debt for our addition.

Another big thanks to all who helped, donated, served, and ate at our recent Spaghetti Lunch.  We raised nearly $1,100 to go toward this summer’s mission trip.

This year we have 25 who have already signed up making their commitment to go...their names are listed below.  Please keep all in your prayers as we prepare to go, as we go, and as we return to report all that God has done in and through us!
