Mark & Karen Keene (May 2012)

National Day of Prayer

Recognized on May 3, 2012

I want to encourage all our church family to have special prayer for our nation, our leaders—local and national, our community, and our church.

Dr. David Jeremiah is this year’s honorary chairman and he has voiced this prayer:

Heavenly Father,

Every good gift and perfect gift comes from You.  You are a faithful God and Your mercy endures forever.

You have promised to bless the nation that trusts in You.  Our currency proclaims “In God We Trust,” but in our culture we are far from You.

In the words of the prophet Daniel, “We have sinned and committed iniquity, we have done wickedly and rebelled, even by departing from Your precepts and Your judgments.”

We come before You once more, seeking Your forgiveness and mercy.  You, O God, are our only hope...Hear our prayer and, for Your honor’s sake, shine Your face upon this nation.

Give our leaders the desire to seek Your wisdom and the courage to follow Your guidance...and watch over the men and women of our armed forces as they sacrifice for the cause of freedom.

We give You thanks for all You have done for us, and we earnestly pray that You will help us become, once again, a nation whose God is the Lord.

In the name of Your Son, and our Savior, we pray this prayer.

Amen.

And Amen.

Marriage Amendment

Share your opinion by voting on May 8, 2012

Christian we have an opportunity to vote on preserving and protecting marriage, just as 30 other states have already been able to do.

On the May 8th primary every North Carolinian who is able to vote can take a stand in preserving marriage the way God intended it to be.

God created “traditional marriage” in the Garden of Eden when He officiated over the first wedding between Adam and Eve.

The Marriage Amendment is a move to protect marriage, as defined by God, between one man and one woman.

There is opposition to this, of course, there has been opposition to God’s will ever since mankind was created.  However, we now have opportunity to take a stand for God’s Word and God’s will in our land.  I pray you will make every effort to cast your vote in promoting God’s ideal for His creation in marriage and family.

Mother's Day

Mother’s Love

Her love is like
An island in life’s ocean,
Vast and wide
A peaceful, quiet shelter
From the wind, the rain, the tide.
‘Tis bound on the north by Hope,
By Patience on the West,
By tender Counsel on the South
And on the East by Rest.
Above it like a beacon light
Shine Faith, and Truth, and Prayer;
And thro’ the changing scenes of life I find a haven there.
Scripture tells us...Many women are capable, but you surpass them all!  Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord will be praised (Proverbs 31:29—30).
To all our Moms, thank you for allowing the rest of us to see love in action!

Parent/Child Dedication

Children are a gift from God!  As believers we are called to recognize our children belong first and foremost to God.  God in His goodness gives children as gifts to parents.  Parents not only have the awesome responsibility of caring for their gifts, but also the wonderful privilege of enjoying these gifts.  Because children belong to God and are given by grace as gifts to parents, it is only proper and appropriate that children be dedicated back to God.

This special service  of ours will be held on Mother’s Day (May 13).  If you are interested and wish to participate, please contact Pastor Dave as soon as possible.

Psalm 127:3 proclaims that Sons are indeed a heritage from the Lord, children, a reward.”

Homecoming

Homecoming Celebration May 20, 2012

58 Years of Blessing!

A wonderful day of remembering and looking forward.  It’s important we remember and consider our past for several reasons:

· It’s an opportunity to praise God for the miracles He has done in the life of our church

· It’s an opportunity to show our appreciation for the many laborers who carried out God’s plan

· It’s an opportunity to remember those from our church family who have gone home to heaven

· It’s an opportunity to worship and fellowship on a larger scale than normal

Our guest preacher is Rev. Bailey Elmore—a former pastor of our church.  I’m sure all of us look forward to the message of encouragement and challenge God is giving him, especially for us!

On this special day we will not have our normal Sunday School time.  Instead we will begin our worship time @ 10:30 am in order to finish around noon.  Afterwards we will have a feast to share as our folk bring their favorite dishes, sides, and desserts.  There will be no afternoon or evening activities due to all the preparation and time in the morning.

I pray you’ll make a special effort to join us on this day—May 20th—as we celebrate God’s goodness to us!

Calling All Graduates

Congratulations to our Graduate of 2012

If you are graduating high school or college, we want to recognize your accomplishments and to honor you during our Graduate Recognition Sunday.  This special recognition will be held during our morning worship time on June 3, 2012.

Please contact Pastor Dave with the following information:

· High School Graduates:  please provide the school you will be attending and possible major or what career you will be embarking on.

· College:  please provide your school and degree you have earned.

Thank you in advance for your information and well done on your various accomplishments!

Baptist Women's Celebration

WOW!  Thank you!  I truly don't know how our day could have been any better.  Our women's choir sang beautifully.  Our speakers shared hope and encouragement from their lives on the mountain top as well as in the valley…thank you Ginny and Kristi!  We were blessed by another visit from Annie Armstrong who shared her love for God and desire for others to have a relationship with Him through His Son Jesus.

The music, the prayers, and the testimonies made for such a wonderful experience in worship as well as a reminder of God's amazing love and grace He showers upon us each and every day.

We are indeed blessed and it is more than we deserve.  I am so thankful for all who had a part in our shared celebration!  God bless you all as you continue to lift the name of Jesus in your home, church, and community.

Valentine's Banquet

This year's banquet was another success!  Thank you to our Youth Ministry Council, our Youth, all those who set up and cleaned up, our cooks, and our entertainment.  All that you did made it so very enjoyable for us all.

Our times of fellowship are always good times.  Each time I'm reminded how great God's love is for His Church.  I'm also reminded of the incredible gifts God has given His children.

I know the more we use those gifts for His glory the better they become and the more others are encouraged by our shared blessings.

Thank you all for giving of yourselves so others can be blessed.  There will be more pictures on our webpage for you to enjoy soon.  However, for our newsletter I wanted all to see our special guests!

Congratulations - Kendall Taylor

Kendall received his Eagle Scout Award on January 8, 2012 during his Eagle Scout Court of Honor held in our sanctuary.

It was a day of celebration, a day of remembering, and a day of looking forward. It was a thrill to celebrate such a wonderful honor with Kendall and his family.

As a church, we are thankful for all the work accomplished in completing Kendall’s Eagle Scout Project—re-landscaping the south side of our church, building a cement wheelchair ramp on our front porch, and providing a picnic table in our playground area.

Taylor Family, we are grateful to e the beneficiary of your hard work and effort. Kendall’s cumulative accomplishments reflect thoughtfulness, faithfulness, and determination from the whole family!

WMU Christmas Project - Showing the Love of Jesus!

You did it again!  Your giving enabled families in our community to experience a Christmas with gifts for the parents who are desperately trying to raise their children right as well as for their children.  Beyond sharing gifts, your giving demonstrated to these families the meaning of Christmas—God’s love...seen in your kindness and generosity!

I’m so thankful for the spirit of love and giving which abides within our church family.  You’ve done good and I’m grateful to be part of such a wonderful church!  In fact, I can see you in Jesus’ parable found in Matthew 25:31—40...I can see our King smiling, too!

Revival Services

Our guest speaker (Dr. Michael Cogdill) challenged us, encouraged us, and taught us helping us understand and apply God’s Word! The choirs from Albertson, Spilman, our own here at Deep Run, as well as Mike Ham and Matthew Hill lifted our spirits to the presence of God’s throne.

Thank you all for making these times together effective and successful… those who continually prayed, those who provided the refreshments, those who attended, and our many guests each and every one helped to make our times together something special. Dr. Cogdill mentioned time and time again what a warm and welcoming church we are and all I can add is Amen and Amen!

It continues to be one of our greatest joys to be with our church family. Our times of fellowship, discipleship, ministry, and worship are a blessing. I praise God for your willingness to serve Him, His church here at Deep Run, and our community. Thank you for being such good ambassadors—may that spirit of cooperation, humility, and service continue on as long as we are this side of heaven! God bless

you for your faithfulness.

Homecoming - A Grand Celebration

Our Charter Members finishing our Walk of Honor

Church—you did a job well done!  Our Homecoming was absolutely wonderful.  Pastor Norm Davis, Jr. had a great message for us...stay connected!  Our Walk of Honor was dedicated—thank you Charter Members for the finishing touch.  We do hope to add more engraved bricks every year as we grow God’s kingdom.

Our Homecoming/Fellowship Committee along with our Cook-Out Crew made for a feast meant for the princes and princesses you all are in God’s Family!  Our Choir is amazing!  I’m still wanting a CD or two recorded with our choir’s greatest hits.

Everything seemed to go very well.  Thank you, everyone, who made this day A Grand Celebration!

God is good!

Our Walk of Honor and the Men Who Put It Together

KNOW HIM MORE—SERVE HIM BETTER—LOVE HIM DEEPER

These three goals are something all God’s children share; something we strive to accomplish; and something your church desires for all it’s members.  We seek to fulfill these goals in various ways on a local level as well as on the global stage.

Locally we have Sunday school for all ages—let me encourage you to join in this time of coming together studying, discussing, and asking questions about God’s Word.  We also have our worship time each Sunday morning—again let me encourage you to join your church as we seek to encourage each other and glorify our Father through faithful obedience.

Another opportunity we have for our members and guests is our Wednesday Night Bible Studies.  We hope to expand our ministry—ministering to more through varied classes.  We’ll continue our Through the Bible class meeting in the parsonage...studying one chapter of Scripture (in sequence) each Wednesday.  To this we hope to add classes for “Couples”,  Women”, and “Men”—helping meet more of the spiritual needs of God’s people.

We are looking to build God’s Kingdom as well as your spiritual foundation through these various classes.

Please make your plans to come to one of these classes—each class will help you KNOW HIM MORE; the result...being more like Jesus!

PS—our Through the Bible class starts back September 8 and the other three will start on September 15.  Sheets are by the organ for you to sign-up—you’ll be glad you did!
